Once again we thank the ADO Foundation for the support on the Project “Environmental Education and Food Security Centre, Worm Composting Centre”. Thanks to ADO’s commitment and generosity, we were able to deliver our new model of rotating composting barrels to schools and communities with high or very high marginalization levels.

Thanks to the fertilizer rich in nutrients produced at the Worm Composting Center and by the micro-producers families with whom Sikanda has been collaborating with, organic plantings are growing strong at all schools and communities that we support. Between September and October 2013, two classrooms have been built for the primary schools Adolfo López Mateos and Bicentenario, located close to the biggest landfill of Oaxaca de Juarez in the South of Mexico.

After only four years of existence, SiKanda received the award “Heroes of Mexico 2013”!

On Friday August  9th, after the completion of the last Eco-House, SiKanda handed over the keys to the 12 recycler  families. The Eco-Houses project started in 2009 and the construction of the last five eco-houses was possible thanks to the support of the Alfredo Harp Helú Foundation, Oaxaca; the Auxilium Foundation, Holland; Mr. Gordon Füller’s “Sky-Marathon” fund raising event; Terra Tech Förderprojekte e.V., Germany; and private donations from SiKanda’s 2012 Christmas campaign. Eco-Houses for Hope

 

Gordon Fuller is raising funds for SiKanda's project to build Eco-Houses for the people who who live and work on the landfill rubbish dump at Oaxaca, Mexico.  He just completed a  cross-country ski marathon (42 km), in the Engadin Valley, Switzerland, on March 10th having never taken part in any long distance event.  Each house costs GBP 4000, which means that he has to raise GBP 95 / Euro 120 per kilometre in... Del 11 al 16 de Junio, con la colaboración de la comunidad de recicladores y de varios voluntarios mexicanos y extranjeros, SiKanda coordinó la construcción de dos nuevas Eco-casas en el basurero municipal de Oaxaca.

Fueron días de trabajo intenso caracterizados por un fuerte calor, pero las dos casas quedaron muy bien, y la gran satisfacción de los recicladores y voluntarios quien participaron en la obra, nos motivo en todo momento.
