Through this project, SiKanda expects to contribute to the improvement of material living conditions of highly marginalized, predominantly indigenous communities in the Central Valleys of Oaxaca.

The unraveling of social fabric, growing violence, and a lack of educational and work opportunities for young people, are conditions that increasingly affect all of our country, exacerbated by a severe economic crisis.

These have caused extremely severe damage to the living conditions of the poorest residents of both urban and suburban communities in the Central Valleys of Oaxaca, who are at the same time suffering from problems concerning drinking water, sanitation, solid waste and nutrition.

1700 people have benefited from workshops in recycling, water storage, home gardening, the reduction of solid waste generation, and the use of ecologically appropriate technologies.

Home dry-composting toilets installed.

Solar heaters set up.

Wood-saving stoves installed.

Home water filters constructed.
